Scintigraphy
has been used to diagnose cavernous hemangiomas.
Preparation
No
preparation required.
The
test involves labeling your red blood cells (RBCs) with a radioactive
material. To label your blood you are given two injections 20 to 30
minutes apart. The first injection prepares your blood for the
radioactive material. The second injection is a small amount of the
labeled radioactive material that will allow us to take images of the
blood distribution in your body.
Imaging
commences immediately after injection of the labeled red blood cells.
Another set of images will be taken about 2 to 3 hours later.
